The 1981-D Lincoln Cent represents a classic era of American pocket change, struck in Denver during a time when pennies were still composed primarily of copper. This brilliant uncirculated specimen retains its original red color, showcasing the metal alloy of 95 percent copper alongside a 5 percent mixture of tin and zinc. The obverse of the coin features the familiar right-facing profile of Abraham Lincoln, a design created by Victor David Brenner. Clearly legible inscriptions surround the president, including the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST above his head, LIBERTY to his left, and the date 1981 with the D mint mark to his right. On the reverse, the Lincoln Memorial design by Frank Gasparro is featured, which was a staple of the one-cent denomination from 1959 to 2008. The architectural details are framed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE CENT, with the traditional Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM placed elegantly above the monument.
