1986-D Lincoln Cent BU (Red)

0.0000 troy oz 1986 Brilliant Unc

The 1986-D Lincoln Cent represents a fascinating era in modern United States minting, showcasing the transition to a zinc-dominant composition. Composed of 99.2 percent zinc with a thin outer coating of 0.8 percent copper, these coins weigh exactly 2.5 grams. Because of the delicate nature of applying copper to a zinc core, early issues in this series frequently display interesting surface anomalies, such as bubbling or tiny raised dots beneath the copper layer. On the obverse, the classic right-facing portrait of Abraham Lincoln is accompanied by the legible inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1986 date and the D mint mark representing the Denver Mint. The reverse features the Lincoln Memorial design, which was minted from 1959 to 2008. This side bears the traditional national mottos, including UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination, ONE CENT.
