1987-D Lincoln Cent BU (Red)

0.0000 troy oz 1987 Brilliant Unc

Struck at the Denver Mint in 1987, this Lincoln Cent showcases a brilliant uncirculated copper-red luster. The obverse features the classic right-facing portrait of Abraham Lincoln designed by Victor David Brenner. Legible inscriptions surrounding the bust include the words LIBERTY, the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST, the year 1987, and the D mint mark representing its Denver origin. The reverse, designed by Frank Gasparro, depicts the Lincoln Memorial, a design that graced the one-cent piece from 1959 to 2008. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination ONE CENT frame the monument. Weighing 2.5 grams, this coin is composed of 99.2 percent zinc with a thin outer coating of 0.8 percent copper. Because of this specific composition, these early zinc cents are known to occasionally exhibit copper coating anomalies, such as bubbling or tiny raised dots on their surfaces.
