In 1992, the San Francisco Mint struck a stunning proof edition of the classic five-cent piece. This coin represents a modern continuation of a design first introduced in the late 1930s, crafted to honor the nation's third president. The coin's surface displays a sharp contrast between frosted design elements and deeply reflective fields, a hallmark of the specialized proof manufacturing process. The obverse side presents a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson. Accompanying his likeness are the traditional American inscriptions of faith and freedom, including "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "LIBERTY", alongside the 1992 year of production and the "S" mint mark indicating its origin in San Francisco. On the reverse, the coin features a detailed depiction of Monticello, Jefferson's famous Virginia home. The neoclassical mansion is centered above the denomination "FIVE CENTS" and the national origin "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". At the very top, the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" completes the design, celebrating unity from many parts.
