1996-D Jefferson Nickel BU
The 1996 Jefferson nickel struck at the Denver Mint offers a remarkably clean look at one of America's most enduring twentieth-century coin designs. Preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, this five-cent piece showcases the sharp details of the engraving work by Felix O. Schlag, whose artistry has defined the nickel for generations. The obverse features a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. Alongside his likeness, the traditional mottoes of the nation are clearly legible, including the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year of production, 1996, accompanied by the "D" mint mark representing the Denver facility. On the reverse, the coin displays a detailed depiction of Monticello, Jefferson's famous Virginia estate. The neoclassical plantation house is centered above its name, "MONTICELLO", and is surrounded by the inscriptions "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", alongside the denomination "FIVE CENTS". This combination of presidential portraiture and architectural tribute remains a classic example of United States coinage.
