1998-D Jefferson Nickel BU
The 1998 Jefferson nickel, struck at the Denver Mint, represents a long-standing tradition in United States coinage. This particular specimen is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, meaning it retains its original luster and sharp details just as it appeared when leaving the coining press. On the obverse, the coin displays a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. This side is inscribed with the familiar national mottos, including the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" along the left rim, and "LIBERTY" accompanied by the year 1998 and the "D" mint mark on the right. Turning the coin over reveals the reverse design, which showcases a detailed rendering of Monticello, Jefferson's historic Virginia estate. The home is centered above its name, "MONTICELLO". Arching over the estate is the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM", while the face value "FIVE CENTS" and the issuing country "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" frame the lower half of the design. Felix O. Schlag created the classic artwork featured on both sides of this five-cent piece.
