The 1998 Lincoln Cent stands as a bright example of modern American pocket change, preserved in brilliant uncirculated condition with its original red luster. While the coin is primarily composed of zinc, making up 99.2 percent of its structure, a thin outer layer of 0.8 percent copper gives it its classic warm appearance. Weighing exactly 2.5 grams, this piece represents the standard physical specifications of the era's small cents. On the obverse, the familiar right-facing profile of Abraham Lincoln, originally created by Victor David Brenner, dominates the field. The legendary inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "LIBERTY" flank the portrait alongside the 1998 year of production. Because this coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, it bears no mint mark beneath the date. The reverse features the detailed depiction of the Lincoln Memorial, a design by Frank Gasparro that graced the one-cent piece continuously from 1959 to 2008. Above the monument, the traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is clearly legible, while the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "ONE CENT" frame the central image.
