The year 2000 marked another chapter for one of America's most enduring five-cent designs. Struck at the Denver Mint, this Jefferson Nickel showcases a crisp, uncirculated finish that highlights the classic artistry of Felix O. Schlag. The coin remains a staple of modern American pocket change, yet studying a pristine, uncirculated specimen reveals the fine details of the engraving that are often lost to daily wear. On the obverse, the portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, faces left. This side of the coin bears the familiar national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the year 2000 and the D mint mark representing the Denver facility. The reverse side of the coin is dedicated to Monticello, Jefferson's famous Virginia estate. The grand neoclassical home is depicted in a detailed vignette, with the name MONTICELLO clearly inscribed beneath the building. The traditional Latin motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM, arches above the estate, while the denominations and country of origin, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and FIVE CENTS, frame the bottom of the design.
