Struck at the San Francisco Mint, the 2001-S Lincoln Cent stands as a brilliant example of modern American proof coinage. This particular specimen is noted for its deep red copper composition, which consists of 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent made of tin and zinc. The coin's pristine Gem Proof finish highlights the sharp details of the strike, creating a beautiful contrast between the frosted design elements and the highly reflective fields. The obverse features the iconic right-facing profile of Abraham Lincoln, a design originally created by Victor David Brenner. Clearly legible inscriptions surround the president, including the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" above, "LIBERTY" to his left, and the date "2001" accompanied by the "S" mint mark to his right. On the reverse, the Lincoln Memorial design by Frank Gasparro is showcased in exquisite detail. This monument design was struck on the one-cent piece continuously from 1959 to 2008.
