2002-D Sacagawea Dollar BU

0.0000 troy oz 2002 Brilliant Unc

Issued by the United States government, the 2002 Sacagawea dollar from the Denver Mint represents a beautiful fusion of modern metallurgy and historical tribute. Though often mistaken for gold due to its warm, golden appearance, the coin is actually constructed from a pure copper core bonded to outer layers of copper, zinc, manganese, and nickel. This specific metallic blend gives the coin its distinctive luster and durability. The obverse, designed by Glenna Goodacre, features a poignant portrait of Sacagawea looking over her shoulder, carrying her young son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau. The inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" accompany the portrait, alongside the "D" mint mark representing the Denver facility and the 2002 year of issue. On the reverse, designed by Thomas D. Rogers, a majestic eagle is depicted in mid-flight, surrounded by seventeen stars. The reverse inscriptions read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the face value of "ONE DOLLAR."
