2002-P Sacagawea Dollar BU
This brilliant uncirculated dollar coin from 2002 represents a distinctive chapter in modern United States coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the coin features a unique multi-layered composition. Its physical makeup consists of outer layers containing a blend of copper, zinc, manganese, and nickel, all permanently bonded to a core of pure copper. This specific metallurgical combination gives the coin its characteristic golden appearance while remaining official legal tender backed by the United States government. The obverse side, created by artist Glenna Goodacre, depicts the Shoshone woman Sacagawea. She is shown looking over her shoulder with her young infant, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, secured to her back. Surrounding this sensitive portrait are the inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 2002 year of issue and the P mint mark. On the reverse, designed by Thomas D. Rogers, a majestic eagle is captured mid-flight, surrounded by seventeen stars. The inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the face value of ONE DOLLAR.
