The 2004-S Lincoln Cent stands as a striking modern example of one of America's most enduring coin designs. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this particular issue is a Gem Proof, a designation that highlights its sharp details and highly reflective surfaces. Unlike standard circulating pennies of its era, this proof coin boasts a composition of 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent made of tin and zinc. The obverse features the iconic right-facing profile of Abraham Lincoln, a design created by Victor David Brenner. Clearly visible on this face are the traditional inscriptions, including the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" along the top curve, the word "LIBERTY" to the left of the portrait, and the date 2004 accompanied by the "S" mint mark below it. On the reverse, the coin displays the Lincoln Memorial, a design by Frank Gasparro that was minted continuously from 1959 to 2008. The reverse inscriptions frame the monument beautifully, featuring "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "ONE CENT" along the outer borders, while the Latin phrase "E-PLURIBUS UNUM" is nestled just above the building.
