The reverse of the coin displays a dramatic battle scene where the Archangel Michael uses his shield to deflect the fiery breath of a dragon while simultaneously slaying the beast with his spear. This powerful imagery gives the coin its name, which traces its roots back to a medieval French coin known as the Angelot or Ange.
