2017 Isle of Man 1 oz Gold Angel BU
Struck in one troy ounce of 0.999 pure gold, this brilliant uncirculated coin from the Isle of Man represents a modern continuation of a classic numismatic legacy. With an incredibly limited mintage of only 100 pieces, the coin carries official backing and sovereign status from the government of the Isle of Man. The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by inscriptions indicating her name, the issuing nation, and the 2017 year of issue. On the reverse, the dramatic imagery depicts Saint Michael the Archangel in the act of slaying a dragon. This side also displays inscriptions denoting the metal purity and weight, reading "au0.999 1OUNCE" alongside the word "ANGEL". This design draws inspiration from a deep historical tradition. The original Angel coin was first brought to England by Edward IV in the year 1465, evolving from a French predecessor known as the Angelot or Ange. Named for its portrayal of the Archangel Michael, the historic coin was traditionally presented to individuals suffering from scrofula, a condition historically referred to as the "King's evil," in a ritual believed to bring healing.
