2007-W 1/2 oz Gold Jefferson's Liberty MS-70 PCGS (FirstStrike®)

0.5000 troy oz .9999 2007 MS-70 (PCGS)

In 2007, the United States Mint embarked on a distinctive numismatic tribute, producing a ten dollar denomination coin honoring the nation's third president. Struck at the West Point facility in New York, this piece holds a special place in modern American coinage as the inaugural half-ounce gold issue from the U.S. Mint to achieve a purity of 0.9999 fine gold. This specific specimen has been certified in perfect Mint State 70 condition, representing the absolute pinnacle of preservation. The obverse of the coin looks back to the early days of the republic, reviving a classic aesthetic from the years 1800 to 1808. The design is modeled after the historic Draped Bust Half Cent, originally created by early American engraver Robert Scot. It features a graceful representation of Liberty, accompanied by the inscriptions "LIBERTY", "1801-1809" to mark his presidency, and the 2007 issue date alongside the West Point "W" mint mark. On the reverse, the coin features a detailed depiction of the monument at Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's estate. Sculpted by Charles Vickers, this side displays the actual epitaph penned by Jefferson himself, listing the achievements he most wished to be remembered for, including his authorship of the Declaration of Independence and the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom, as well as his role as father of the University of Virginia. This intricate inscription is framed by the coin's weight of 1/2 oz, its 0.9999 fine gold purity, and the ten dollar face value.
