2009 Lincoln Cent Birthplace BU (Red)

0.0000 troy oz 2009 Brilliant Unc

In 2009, the United States Mint celebrated a double anniversary: two centuries since the birth of Abraham Lincoln, and one hundred years since his likeness first appeared on the one cent coin. This Brilliant Uncirculated copper-plated zinc cent features a special reverse design dedicated to the very beginning of Lincoln's life journey. The obverse of the coin retains the classic right-facing portrait of Abraham Lincoln originally created by Victor David Brenner. Legible inscriptions on this side include the words LIBERTY, the year 2009, and the traditional motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse side, a collaborative artistic effort designed by Richard Masters and sculpted by Jim Licaretz, features a detailed depiction of the historic log cabin where Lincoln was born in 1809. This rustic birthplace scene is accompanied by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the denomination ONE CENT, and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
