2009 (MMIX) Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle MS-70 PL NGC

1.0000 troy oz .9999 2009 NGC

In 2009, the United States Mint realized a dramatic numismatic vision by striking a modern rendition of the celebrated 1907 Saint-Gaudens design. This extraordinary coin is crafted from one troy ounce of 24-karat gold, boasting an exceptional purity of 0.9999. What sets this issue apart is its physical presence, featuring a planchet thickness of 4 millimeters and an ultra high relief strike that gives the artwork immense depth. The surfaces are finished with a proof mirror-like quality, highlighting the dramatic contrast of the raised elements. The obverse presents a powerful image of Lady Liberty holding a torch and an olive branch as she strides forward, illuminated by the rays of a rising sun. This 2009 version updates the original layout by incorporating four additional stars. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle is depicted soaring through the sky. The reverse also displays the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, TWENTY DOLLARS, and IN GOD WE TRUST. The Roman numerals MMIX are featured on the coin to designate its year of manufacture. Several subtle design adjustments distinguish this modern release from its historical predecessor. Along with the added stars and the inclusion of the motto, a small border was integrated along the edge of the coin. With a total worldwide mintage of 114,427 pieces, this issue stands as a remarkable achievement in modern minting technology, blending early twentieth-century artistry with contemporary production capabilities.
