The year 2010 marked a significant visual transition for America's most ubiquitous coin, introducing a fresh reverse design that continues to circulate today. Minted at the Denver facility, this brilliant uncirculated cent showcases a vibrant red copper luster, though its internal composition is predominantly zinc, containing 99.2 percent zinc and a thin outer layer of 0.8 percent copper. The front of the coin retains the classic right-facing portrait of Abraham Lincoln, a design created by Victor David Brenner. Legible inscriptions on this side include the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, the word LIBERTY, and the 2010 date positioned just below the D mint mark, indicating its Denver origin. Turning the coin over reveals the reverse design by Lyndall Bass, which depicts the Union shield. This symbol of national unity features thirteen vertical stripes beneath a horizontal bar, representing the original states joined in support of the federal government. The reverse is inscribed with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination, ONE CENT.
