2014-D Baseball HOF 1/2 Dollar Clad Commem BU (w/Box & COA)
In 2014, the Denver Mint produced a clad half dollar that stands as a landmark achievement in American numismatics. Created to honor the seventy-fifth anniversary of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, this issue represents the very first time the United States Mint manufactured a coin with a curved profile. The physical shape of the coin mimics the deep pocket of a baseball glove on one side and the round contours of a ball on the other. The concave obverse displays an open baseball glove, capturing the texture of the leather pocket. This side is inscribed with the words LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the year 2014. The curved design naturally draws the eye into the center of the mitt, emphasizing the three-dimensional depth of the strike. On the convex reverse, the coin bulges outward to form the shape of a baseball, complete with the prominent stitching that defines the sport. This side bears the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination of HALF DOLLAR. Struck in a copper and nickel blend bonded to a pure copper core, this uncirculated coin has a mintage of 142,405 pieces, making it a fascinating study in modern minting technology and sports heritage.
