This 2015 quarter from the San Francisco Mint showcases a beautiful natural scene as part of the America the Beautiful series. Struck to a brilliant Gem Proof finish, the coin is composed of a copper-nickel alloy, containing 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel. The reverse side, designed by Don Everhart, features a detailed wildlife scene set in Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge. A majestic great blue heron stands in the foreground water, while a great egret is visible in the background. This wildlife sanctuary in Delaware has a deep history, with a property transaction dating back to 1679, and the refuge itself being established in 1937. Surrounding the birds are the inscriptions BOMBAY HOOK, DELAWARE, 2015, and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the obverse, the coin displays the familiar profile of George Washington, originally designed by John Flanagan. Alongside the portrait of the first president, the inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR. The small S mint mark is also visible, indicating its production at the San Francisco Mint.
