This 2016 release represents the twelfth installment in the Biblical Series, serving as the sixth design issued during its specific year. Struck from two troy ounces of 0.999 fine silver, the coin stands out with its rimless, high-relief format. The surface has been treated with an antique finish, giving the metal a deep, historical appearance that highlights the dramatic details of the artwork. The reverse side of the coin is inspired by the classic illustration of "The Nativity" by Gustave Doré. It depicts the infant Jesus alongside Mary and Joseph, gathered with shepherds and animals in a detailed scene. On the obverse, the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf is surrounded by inscriptions detailing the year 2016, the face value of two dollars, and the weight and purity of the metal. Adding to its distinct character, each coin has a unique serial number etched directly onto its edge with a laser. This serial number corresponds to the one printed on the accompanying certificate of authenticity, which also features the biblical passage of Luke 2: 8 to 17. With a limited mintage of just 1,499 pieces, this coin is a remarkable fusion of classic art and modern minting techniques.
