In 2016, the United States Mint continued its celebrated America the Beautiful series with a tribute to the rugged landscapes of North Dakota. This twenty five cent coin, struck at the Denver Mint, features a brilliant uncirculated finish that highlights the intricate details of its dual-sided design. Made from a copper-based composition, the coin serves as a miniature canvas celebrating one of the nation's most historic natural sanctuaries. The reverse side of the coin captures a classic scene from Theodore Roosevelt National Park. A young Theodore Roosevelt is depicted on horseback, surveying the dramatic terrain of the North Dakota badlands. The Little Missouri River winds through the background of the scene, framed by the inscriptions THEODORE ROOSEVELT, NORTH DAKOTA, and the year 2016. On the obverse, the familiar portrait of George Washington faces left, accompanied by the traditional national mottos IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBERTY. The Denver mint mark, represented by a clear letter D, is positioned on the right side of the profile, while the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR define the coin's origin and face value.
