The 2016 Native American dollar, minted in Philadelphia, celebrates a vital chapter in military communication. The reverse design features a powerful visual tribute to the Native American code talkers of the twentieth century. Two distinct helmets, representing World War I and World War II, sit above a pair of feathers arranged to form a large letter V, which represents victory and the essential contributions of these specialized communicators. This side also displays the denomination of one dollar. On the obverse, the coin carries the familiar depiction of Sacagawea carrying her young son. Legible inscriptions on this face include the classic American mottos of liberty and trust. Rather than appearing on the flat faces of the coin, the year of issue, the P mint mark, and the traditional motto meaning out of many, one, are incused directly into the edge.
