2016-S ATB Quarter Theodore Roosevelt National Park Gem Proof
This 2016 proof quarter, minted in San Francisco, celebrates the rugged landscape of Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. As part of the America the Beautiful series, the coin is struck from a composition of 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel, showcasing a highly polished finish characteristic of a Gem Proof specimen. The reverse side of the coin honors the conservation legacy of Theodore Roosevelt. The design depicts the former president on horseback, looking out over the waters of the Little Missouri River. This detailed scene is accompanied by the inscriptions THEODORE ROOSEVELT, NORTH DAKOTA, 2016, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the obverse, the familiar portrait of George Washington is presented with sharp clarity. Surrounding the first president are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination, QUARTER DOLLAR. The small S mint mark is also visible, indicating its origin from the San Francisco Mint.
