2017-D ATB Quarter George Rogers Clark National Park BU

0.0000 troy oz 2017 Brilliant Unc

The 2017-D quarter from the Denver Mint offers a vivid glimpse into early American military history, celebrating the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park in Indiana. As part of the America the Beautiful series, this coin captures a pivotal moment from the Revolutionary War, specifically the 1779 campaign led by George Rogers Clark to seize Fort Sackville from British forces. The park itself, commemorating this feat, became part of the National Park Service in 1966. On the reverse side, designed by Frank Morris and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, the coin depicts Clark guiding his men through treacherous, waterlogged plains as they advance toward the fort. The inscriptions on this side include "GEORGE ROGERS CLARK," "INDIANA," "2017," and the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The obverse features the familiar portrait of George Washington, originally created by John Flanagan. Alongside the bust of the first president, the inscriptions read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "QUARTER DOLLAR." A distinct "D" mint mark is also visible, identifying its origin at the Denver facility.
