The 2017 America the Beautiful quarter honors the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park, a site in Indiana that joined the National Park Service system in 1966. This brilliant uncirculated coin, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, captures a pivotal moment of determination on its reverse side. The design depicts George Rogers Clark guiding his group of men through cold, flooded plains as they make their challenging approach toward Fort Sackville. This detailed scene was designed by Frank Morris and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso. On the obverse, the coin displays the familiar portrait of George Washington, originally created by John Flanagan. Surrounding the president's likeness are the essential inscriptions of American coinage, including "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR." The small "P" mint mark is also visible, indicating its origin at the Philadelphia facility.
