In 2017, the San Francisco Mint produced a beautiful proof edition of the classic United States one cent coin. Struck with a brilliant finish, this copper-plated piece showcases the enduring artistry of American coinage. The coin is distinguished by its deep, reflective surfaces and sharp details, which are characteristic of the proof minting process. The front of the coin features the historic right-facing portrait of Abraham Lincoln, a design originally created by Victor David Brenner. Accompanying the bust are the traditional inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," along with the 2017 date and the "S" mint mark, indicating its origin from the San Francisco facility. On the reverse side, the coin displays the modern Union Shield design created by Lyndall Bass. This powerful symbol of national unity features thirteen vertical stripes beneath a horizontal bar, representing the original states joined in a single union.
