This bird was first documented in 1848 by the naturalist John Macgillivray and received its name in honor of Queen Victoria. Struck under the authority of the Australian Currency Act 1965, this legal tender coin contains one troy ounce of highly pure 0.9999 fine silver, with a strict production limit of 50,000 pieces. The reverse side of the coin showcases the bird in a dramatic display pose, perched upon a tree branch with its beak parted and its wings fully spread.
