The 2019 Denver Mint quarter celebrates a vast expanse of protected land in Idaho, marking the fiftieth entry in the fifty-six coin America the Beautiful series. This specific issue is struck from a copper and nickel blend bonded to a core of pure copper, presenting a brilliant uncirculated finish. The reverse design captures the rugged spirit of the American West, depicting a boater navigating the rushing waters of the Salmon River, framed by towering trees and rock formations. This protected region spans 2.367 million acres, safeguarding majestic mountain ranges, diverse wildlife, and the river itself. The wilderness area was established by Congress in 1980 through the Central Idaho Wilderness Act. In 1984, the sanctuary was renamed to honor Senator Frank Church, who played a pivotal role in conservation as the sponsor of both the 1964 Wilderness Act and the 1968 Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. On the obverse, the coin displays the classic portrait of George Washington. Surrounding the president are the traditional inscriptions of "United States of America", "Liberty", "In God We Trust", and "Quarter Dollar", alongside the "D" mint mark representing the Denver facility. The reverse is inscribed with "RIVER OF NO RETURN", "WILDERNESS", "IDAHO", "2019", and "E PLURIBUS UNUM".
