The 2019 America the Beautiful quarter program highlights a significant site of remembrance with this issue from the Philadelphia Mint. Struck with a copper and nickel outer layer bonded to a pure copper core, this brilliant uncirculated coin serves as a miniature monument to a pivotal moment in the Pacific theater of World War II. The reverse side depicts a young woman standing before the Flag Circle and Court of Honor at the American Memorial Park. This site honors the American service members and local Marianas residents who perished during the intense Marianas Campaign of June and July 1944. The design is framed by inscriptions reading AMERICAN MEMORIAL PARK, N. MARIANA ISLANDS, 2019, and E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the obverse, the familiar portrait of George Washington designed by John Flanagan takes center stage. Surrounding the first president's profile are the traditional inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR, alongside the P mint mark indicating its origin in Philadelphia.
