In 2019, the United States Mint celebrated the rich cultural landscape of Texas with a special quarter honoring the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. This coin, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, features a brilliant uncirculated finish that highlights its detailed and symbolic artistry. Composed of a copper and nickel blend bonded to a pure copper core, the coin represents a modern chapter in the ongoing America the Beautiful series. The reverse of the coin presents a complex design reminiscent of a Spanish colonial real coin. Divided by a central cross, the four quadrants display a mission bell tower, a lion, stalks of wheat, and flowing waves of water. This intricate imagery is framed by the inscriptions "San Antonio Missions," "Texas," "E Pluribus Unum," and the year "2019." On the obverse, the familiar portrait of George Washington faces left, a classic depiction originally created by John Flanagan. Surrounding the presidential bust are the traditional inscriptions "United States of America," "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and the face value of "Quarter Dollar." A small "P" mint mark is also visible, denoting its origin in Philadelphia.
