The American Innovation dollar series celebrates pioneering achievements and innovators from every state, territory, and the District of Columbia. Released at a pace of four designs annually, this specific coin honors the state of Georgia, with the sequence of the series determined by the order in which each state joined the Union. This sovereign issue is backed by the United States government and circulates alongside the Native American dollar series. On the obverse, the Statue of Liberty is shown in a striking profile view. This side also displays the denomination of one dollar, the traditional motto of trust, and a distinct privy mark shaped like a stylized gear. The reverse side highlights the Trustees' Garden, illustrating a hand carefully sowing seeds amidst a diverse selection of growing plants. The inscriptions on this side clearly identify the location as Georgia and name the historic garden itself. This particular coin features a reverse proof finish, which flips the traditional proof appearance by pairing frosted fields with mirror-like raised elements. While the obverse and reverse faces carry the main designs, the edge of the coin contains incused lettering for the year 2019, the San Francisco mint mark, and the national motto. The physical makeup of the coin consists of a pure copper center bonded to outer layers composed of 77 percent copper, 12 percent zinc, 7 percent manganese, and 4 percent nickel.
