Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this 2019 proof quarter is a brilliant example of the America the Beautiful series. The coin features a copper-nickel outer layer bonded to a pure copper core, showcasing the mirror-like finish characteristic of a Gem Proof strike. On the front, the classic portrait of George Washington, originally designed by John Flanagan, is accompanied by the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and QUARTER DOLLAR, alongside the S mint mark. The reverse side of the coin honors the American Memorial Park, which was established in 1978 on Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands. The design depicts a young woman standing before the Flag Circle and Court of Honor, a site dedicated to remembering the American and Mariana lives lost during the Marianas Campaign of June and July 1944. The reverse inscriptions include AMERICAN MEMORIAL PARK, N. MARIANA ISLANDS, 2019, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
