In 2019, the San Francisco Mint produced a distinctive clad quarter dollar celebrating Lowell National Historical Park. This coin, struck with a brilliant uncirculated finish, is composed of a copper and nickel outer layer bonded to an inner core of pure copper. It represents a modern chapter in the long-running America the Beautiful series, capturing a pivotal era of industrial history on a small metal canvas. The reverse side of the coin displays a detailed scene of a young female textile worker operating a power loom, with the industrial city of Lowell visible in the background. This illustration honors the labor and innovation that defined the region. Surrounding this central image are inscriptions noting the location of Lowell, Massachusetts, along with the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the year of issue, 2019. On the obverse, the familiar profile of George Washington faces left, based on the classic portrait created by sculptor John Flanagan. This side carries the essential national inscriptions, including UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination, QUARTER DOLLAR. A small S mint mark is also visible, indicating its origin at the historic San Francisco facility.
