The American Innovation dollar series celebrates the spirit of ingenuity across the United States, dedicating individual coins to groundbreaking concepts and creators from every state, territory, and the District of Columbia. Released in the chronological order that the states joined the Union, these coins are introduced alongside the Native American dollar series, with four unique designs debuting annually. This particular proof edition, struck at the San Francisco Mint, highlights a winter sport that revolutionized outdoor recreation. Representing the state of Vermont, the reverse of the coin captures the energy of snowboarding. A detailed depiction of a snowboarder executing an athletic maneuver in the air dominates the design. The inscriptions on this side include the name of the state, VERMONT, alongside UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. On the obverse, the Statue of Liberty is shown in a classic profile view. Accompanying this iconic image is a small privy mark shaped like a gear, symbolizing the theme of industry and innovation. The face value of $1 and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST are also visible.
