This ancient silver tetradrachm originates from the Kingdom of Macedon during the momentous era of 336 to 323 BC. Struck as an early posthumous issue under the authority of Alexander III, famously known as Alexander the Great, the coin represents a classic era of ancient Mediterranean coinage. It contains approximately 0.43 troy ounces of silver, serving as a substantial medium of exchange in the ancient world. The obverse of the coin displays a detailed right-facing bust of the legendary hero Heracles, draped in his characteristic lion skin headdress. This powerful imagery is paired on the reverse with a depiction of Zeus, the king of the gods, who is shown seated and facing left. In his hands, Zeus holds a ceremonial scepter and a perched eagle. The reverse also bears the Greek inscription ALEXANDROY, linking the coinage directly to the legacy of the Macedonian ruler.
