Struck in the year 1830, this early United States silver dime represents a fascinating era of American coinage. With a composition of approximately 89.24 percent silver, the coin contains about 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. It stands as a physical survivor from the pre-1933 era of circulating coinage, minted at the Philadelphia facility. The obverse of this ten-cent piece showcases a portrait of Liberty facing left, wearing a traditional Phrygian cap. Thirteen stars surround her image, representing the original colonies, with the date 1830 positioned at the base of the design. This iconic depiction was originally created by engraver John Reich. On the reverse side, the design features an eagle with its wings spread, clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons, with a protective shield placed over its chest. Above the eagle, the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is displayed, while the denomination is indicated at the bottom as 10C. This particular specimen is graded in Very Good condition, showing honest wear that tells the story of its long journey through early American commerce.
