1831 Capped Bust Dime VF

Struck in the year 1831, this United States ten-cent piece is a remarkable survivor from the early era of American coinage. Crafted from an alloy containing 0.0715 ounces of pure silver, the dime showcases the artistry of designer John Reich. The coin is a well-preserved example of the Capped Bust design series, presenting a window into the craftsmanship of the early nineteenth century. On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty is depicted facing left, wearing a traditional Phrygian cap with her long hair flowing freely down her back. The word LIBERTY is clearly inscribed upon her band. Surrounding this central figure are thirteen stars, which pay tribute to the original colonies that formed the nation. Below the bust, the date of 1831 is prominently displayed. The reverse of the dime features a powerful bald eagle with a protective shield emblazoned across its chest. In its talons, the eagle grips both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense. Above the eagle, the classic motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is visible, while the surrounding inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination indicated as 10C.
