0.0387 troy oz .8924 1832 Almost Unc

In the early nineteenth century, the United States Mint produced incredibly detailed coinage on a miniature scale. The 1832 Capped Bust half dime is a prime example of this craftsmanship, packing immense artistry into a silver coin containing just 0.0387 troy ounces of precious metal. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a silver purity of 0.8924, this five-cent piece represents a fascinating era of early American currency. The obverse features a profile of Liberty, her hair covered by a classic cap. This portrait, created by designer William Kneass, is surrounded by stars with the year 1832 positioned at the bottom. Despite the coin's small physical size, the depth of the engraving remains remarkably clear, especially on well-preserved specimens that have reached an Almost Uncirculated grade. On the reverse, a detailed eagle grips an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons, symbolizing a desire for peace paired with a readiness for defense. A shield is emblazoned across the eagle's chest, and the denomination is indicated at the bottom as 5C. The motto UNUM is also integrated into the reverse design, completing a powerful national emblem that defined the pre-1933 era of American silver coinage.
