The year 1832 marked a significant transition for United States silver coinage, particularly evident in the quarter dollar. During this period, the mint introduced a notable physical transformation by reducing the overall diameter of the twenty-five cent piece. This structural change also prompted a redesign of the reverse imagery, resulting in the complete removal of the traditional scroll bearing the motto 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' that had previously sat above the eagle. On the obverse, the coin displays a classic left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a draped cap, surrounded by a ring of stars with the date 1832 positioned at the bottom. The reverse features a bold eagle with its wings spread wide, clutching arrows and an olive branch. The denomination is clearly marked below the eagle as '25 C.', while the surrounding legend reads 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'. Crafted from 89.24% silver, this piece contains approximately 0.1934 troy ounces of precious metal. Designed by William Kneass, this specific coin survives in Very Fine condition, showing the distinct artistic style and technical adjustments of early nineteenth-century American minting.
