1833 Capped Bust Dime XF

0.0775 troy oz .8924 1833 Extra Fine

The 1833 Capped Bust Dime represents an intriguing era of early American coinage. Struck in silver with a purity of 0.8924, this ten cent piece contains 0.0775 troy ounces of precious metal. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint during a time of growing commerce, the coin features a total mintage of 485,000 pieces, making it a fascinating survivor of the pre-1933 era. Designed by John Reich, the obverse of the coin displays a left-facing portrait of Liberty wearing a traditional Phrygian cap, which is inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Thirteen stars encircle the bust, representing the original colonies, with the date 1833 positioned clearly at the bottom. The reverse of the dime showcases a bald eagle with a patriotic shield draped across its breast. In its talons, the eagle clutches both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing peace and readiness. Above the eagle, a scroll bears the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, while the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination 10 C. frame the central design.
