1834 Capped Bust Dime Fine

Dating back to the early era of American coinage, this ten cent piece from 1834 showcases the detailed artistry of the early nineteenth century. Struck at the Philadelphia mint, the silver coin is composed of 89.24 percent silver, containing approximately 0.0775 troy ounces of the precious metal. It remains a fascinating survivor of early American currency, preserved in Fine condition. The obverse side presents a left facing portrait of Liberty, recognizable by her draped bust and the soft Phrygian cap resting on her curled hair. A band across her cap displays the word LIBERTY, while thirteen stars encircle the portrait to represent the original colonies, with the year 1834 positioned at the bottom. This classic depiction was the work of designer John Reich. On the reverse, an American eagle stands with wings spread, clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, symbolizing both preparedness and peace. A shield is placed over the eagle's chest. Above the bird, a scroll displays the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, while the surrounding inscription reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. At the very bottom, the denomination is indicated as 10 C.
