1835 Capped Bust Dime AG

0.0775 troy oz .8924 1835 Almost Good

The 1835 Capped Bust dime offers a fascinating look into early United States coinage. Struck in 0.8924 fine silver, this ten-cent piece comes from an era when the nation was still young and expanding. The Philadelphia Mint produced 485,000 of these dimes in 1835, making each surviving specimen a compelling survivor of pre-1933 American currency. On the obverse, the design showcases Liberty facing left, wearing a classic Phrygian cap with her tresses flowing downward. The word LIBERTY is inscribed upon her band, while thirteen stars encircle the portrait to represent the founding American colonies. The date 1835 is clearly positioned at the bottom of the coin. The reverse side presents a heraldic eagle with a shield placed over its chest. In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing the dual themes of peace and defense. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination 10 C. surround this central motif, completing a design created by John Reich.
