1835 Capped Bust Dime XF

The 1835 Capped Bust Dime represents an early era of American silver coinage, minted in Philadelphia with a composition of 89.24 percent silver. This particular ten-cent piece contains 0.0775 troy ounces of precious metal. With a total mintage of 485,000 pieces, it survives today as a fascinating artifact from the first half of the nineteenth century, preserved in Extra Fine condition. Designed by John Reich, the obverse of the coin presents a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap, which is inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Thirteen stars encircle the bust, representing the original colonies, with the date 1835 placed clearly at the bottom. On the reverse, an eagle holds a symbolic bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, with a shield draped across its chest. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is displayed on a scroll above the eagle, while the denomination is indicated at the very bottom as 10 C.
