The year 1891 marked the end of an era for United States coinage, representing the final issue of the long-running Liberty Seated dime. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this particular ten-cent piece survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of a design that defined American pocket change for over half a century. On the obverse, the figure of Liberty is depicted resting on a rock, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while supporting a shield with the other. The year of minting, 1891, is inscribed below the figure, while the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" frame the central image. This design was originally conceived by Christian Gobrecht. The reverse side of this silver coin features a lush wreath that encircles the face value, written simply as "ONE DIME". Composed of 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.0715 troy ounces, this sovereign coin carries the "S" mint mark of the San Francisco facility, making it a tangible connection to late nineteenth-century West Coast minting.
