1916 Barber Quarter Fine
The year 1916 marked the final chapter for one of America's most recognizable silver coin series. Designed by Charles Barber, this twenty five cent piece represents the culmination of a design era that spanned over two decades. Struck in 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal and showcases the distinct artistry of late nineteenth and early twentieth century American coinage. On the obverse, Lady Liberty is depicted in profile, wearing a classic Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath. The word LIBERTY is visible on her band, surrounded by the solemn national motto IN GOD WE TRUST and the year of mintage, 1916. This particular specimen survives in Fine condition, showing honest wear from its time in circulation while retaining the core elements of its original artistry. The reverse displays a powerful heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, protecting a shield on its chest. In its talons, the eagle grasps an olive branch and a cluster of arrows, symbolizing peace and readiness. A banner held in its beak proclaims E PLURIBUS UNUM, while the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR frame this classic national symbol.
