1922 Grant Memorial Half BU

0.3617 troy oz .900 1922 Brilliant Unc

Struck in 1922, this commemorative silver half dollar honors the centenary of the birth of Ulysses S. Grant. The coin contains 0.3617 troy ounces of silver, with a purity of 90 percent. Designed by the prominent artist Laura Gardin Fraser, the coin stands as a classic example of early twentieth-century American commemorative coinage, minted in Philadelphia. The obverse of the coin presents a profile bust of Ulysses S. Grant, flanked by his name and the dual dates of 1822 and 1922. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR" frame the portrait. On the reverse, the design depicts the humble frame house in Point Pleasant, Ohio, where Grant was born. This side also features the traditional national mottos, "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM," integrated into the field around the historic home.
