In 1922, the United States honored the centennial of Ulysses S. Grant's birth with a special commemorative silver half dollar. This particular issue features a small, raised star on the obverse, distinguishing it from the starless variety of the same year. Struck in 90% silver, the coin contains 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal and represents a fascinating moment in early twentieth-century American commemorative coinage. The obverse of the coin presents a profile bust of Ulysses S. Grant, designed by sculptor Laura Gardin Fraser. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ULYSSES S.
