In 1932, the United States introduced a new quarter design to honor the bicentennial of George Washington's birth. This first year of the series features the familiar left facing portrait of the first American president on the obverse. Above his profile, the word LIBERTY is inscribed, while the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST sits quietly to his left. The date 1932 is struck clearly at the bottom of the coin. The reverse displays a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. The eagle clutches a bundle of arrows in its talons, positioned above an olive branch. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM arch over the eagle, while the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR is placed along the bottom rim. On this Denver Mint issue, a small D mint mark can be found located directly below the center of the olive branch. Struck in 90 percent silver, this coin contains 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. Preserved in Very Good condition, this piece displays honest wear from its time in circulation, yet it retains the essential design details of John Flanagan's classic artwork. It stands as a fascinating survivor from the very beginning of the long running Washington quarter series.
