1932-S Washington Quarter AG

0.1788 troy oz .900 1932 Almost Good

In 1932, the United States introduced a new quarter design to honor the bicentennial of George Washington's birth. This inaugural year of the Washington quarter series features the now-familiar left-facing profile of the nation's first president on the obverse, a design created by sculptor John Flanagan. The year 1932 is clearly struck at the base of the portrait, marking the beginning of a long-running numismatic tradition. The reverse of the coin presents a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch beneath its talons. On this particular issue, the 'S' mint mark is located below the wreath on the reverse, indicating it was struck at the San Francisco Mint. Struck in 90% fine silver, this coin contains 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. Even in an Almost Good state of preservation, where the details have softened from decades of circulation, the coin retains its historic character as a representative of the very first year of the Washington quarter.
